HANGZHOU, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- China's men's and women's 3x3 basketball teams both advanced to the quarterfinals at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Friday.
The Chinese men's team narrowly defeated India 18-15, while their women's counterparts easily defeated Uzbekistan 21-4, with both teams securing their spots in the last eight as group winners.
In the women's category, China built an early 7-0 lead and never looked back. Wan Jiyuan scored seven points, Wang Jiahui and Chen Mingling contributed six points each, and Wang Xinyu added two. China grabbed 26 rebounds, compared to Uzbekistan's nine.
"We just focused on ourselves because at the current stage, our opponents weren't that strong. Our goal is to win the gold medal," said Chen after the match.
In the men's Group C round robin, China endured a tough battle against India to emerge victorious. India started the game with a 3-0 lead, while Zhao Jiaren's two-pointer helped China move ahead 6-4.
China then extended their lead to 11-7, but India responded with a fierce attack and took a 14-13 advantage. Zhou Yanxu helped China tie 14-14 with 1:10 left, and his two-pointer earned China a 16-14 lead with 38 seconds to go as China held their advantage until the end.
"We were prepared for difficulties, and even when we were behind, we didn't give up. We encouraged each other and were able to turn the game around in the end," Zhou said after the match.
In other men's matches, Hong Kong, China; South Korea; Macao, China; Thailand; Mongolia; Japan and Qatar came out as the winners.
Chinese Taipei, Jordan, Thailand, Japan and South Korea also emerged as the victors in the women's category.
So far, Mongolia, Qatar, China and South Korea have advanced to the men's quarterfinals as group winners. For the women's part, China, South Korea, Mongolia, and Chinese Taipei have reached the last eight.
