NEW JERSEY, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Former Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez was on target as Colombia overpowered Guatemala 4-1 in their friendly here on Saturday.

Rodriguez, who joined Greece's Olympiacos this month from Qatari outfit Al-Rayyan, put his side ahead on the stroke of halftime with a close-range effort after Juan Cuadrado's cross from the right wing.

Luis Sinisterra, Rafael Borre and Yaser Asprilla added second-half goals for Colombia before Oscar Santis reduced the deficit with a low 22-yard drive in stoppage time.

The Cafeteros' next fixture will be a friendly against Mexico in Santa Clara, California, on Tuesday. The Central American team, meanwhile, will face Honduras in Houston the same day.

Both Colombia and Guatemala missed out on qualifying for the FIFA World Cup, which will be played in Qatar from November 20 to December 18.
