PANAMA CITY, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Five Panama players have tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of a friendly against Peru, the Central American country's football federation said on Tuesday.
The cases were diagnosed during routine PCR and antigen tests on Monday, the federation said in a statement, without disclosing the names of the infected players.
"Given this situation, manager Thomas Christiansen will call up additional players, whose names will be revealed once they test negative," the statement read.
The friendly will be played in Peruvian capital Lima on Sunday.
Both teams will use the match to fine-tune their preparations for 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Panama face Costa Rica, Jamaica and Mexico in late January and early February while Peru will clash with Colombia and Ecuador in the same period.
