1st Davao COVID 19 positive patient recovers

NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro, March 23 (PIA) - The first COVID positive patient in Davao Region identified as PH130 has recovered and is set to be discharged today, March 23, 2020.

Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) Infectious Disease Specialist and head of the Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Disease Control Team, Dr. Mitzie Lou Osabel confirmed through a text message that the result of the second swab test of PH130 is negative.

PH130 is a 21-year-old female resident of Pantukan, Davao de Oro, who arrived in Davao City last February 29 from United Kindom via Doha, Qatar and Manila routes.

She sought consultation for her cough at a local health facility in Pantukan on March 9, 2020, and was immediately isolated. On March 10, she was transferred and admitted for isolation and testing to DRMC in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

On March 15, her first swab test result showed that she was positive of COVID19 disease; however, bulletin from the Department of Health noted that she was in a stable condition.

Davao de Oro Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy was elated upon hearing the news earlier today in his live radio guesting at Serbisyo de Oro radio.

The local chief executive also disclosed aside from the recovery of COVID positive patient, seven out of the nine persons under investigation, whoare from the province, will be discharged today from their isolation in DRMC.

Governor Uy also emphasized that as of today, there is no cases of community transmission on COVID19 disease.

"Malipayon gyud ang tibuok Davao de Oro nga naayo sila. That will erase our fears, atong mga kahadlok, atong mga kabalaka na adunay community transmission kay as of now, wala pa jud tay community transmission pa." (The whole Davao de Oro is happy that they (PUIs and confirmed patients) have recovered. That will erase our fears, our worries that there is a community transmission because as of now, there is no cases yet of community transmission.)

The Governor said that some of the barangays right now are implementing the home quarantine pass to regulate people going outside their houses.

He also bared that the municipal governments are now preparing relief good to identified families, and will be distributed within this week.

As of 10:00PM of March 22, the province has 911 persons under monitoring (PUM), as 303 of the 1,214 PUMs have been cleared of the disease.

Davao de Oro Emergency Operation Center manager and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Antonio Ybiernas Jr. said that the number will increase or decrease depending on the attitude of the residents.

"Motaas pa gyud kung ang mga tao magpagahi ug ulo (The numbers could rise if the people continue to be hard-headed)," Dr. Ybiernas said. (PIA11, Michael Uy with reports from Jeanevive Abangan of PIA DavNor-DavOr)
